My Boy Best Friend : Prologue (Part 1)

"He's leaving."
My heart broke, "What do you mean?"
She shrugged both shoulders, "I mean, he's not staying."
I blinked twice before comprehending the words that have literally cracked my heart open.
My friend was leaving. My secret friend. Maybe it's a good thing, after all, he does seem pretty ashamed of me. I mean, who does that? He befriends me through texts and tells me I'm the best, and yet, he never even tried laying an eye upon me.
"That's good," I lied and faked a smile, "He's an ass anyway." I sighed.
Ashley poked me, "Are you sure? Aren't you two friends and all?" her eyebrows furrowed.
I shook my head, "We text, yeah, but Ash, he's a freakin' douche. You know I'm a man-hater. I would never–"
"Yeah, yeah." She interjected. "I just assumed that you liked him. You know, you seemed very fond of him when you first told me about him."
I looked down. Do I like him? Hell yeah, I do! But after I watched him flirt and text with other girls, including Ash, I completely tuned him out of my life. But at some point, I keep letting him back in.
"Yeah well, I thought he was a better guy then. Now, I know who he really is." I smiled.
She nodded, "Abi, if you ever need anyone to talk to, I'm here for you. You're my best friend, don't even try keeping secrets from me!" she chuckled.
I laughed, but deep inside, I felt broken. I was lying to her just then, because apparently, I can't tell a soul about my friendship with 'him'. He never admitted that he was ashamed of me, but when he asked me to keep us a secret, I think it was pretty clear.
Kolt was an ass. And as much as I hate to admit, he was still my friend. My friend whom I was in love with.

My phone buzzed.
I'm out again. I haven't enrolled for the second semester. Not sure if I could still study. I might stop.
- Kolt
I rolled my eyes. He's been out for 5 days now. If he wasn't going to enroll, he might as well leave now so I can finally start to get over him.
I thought for a moment and realized how harsh I was thinking. I texted back.
Are you sure? :( I'll miss you. Don't do this. I'll look for help. I know people who can give you scholarships. You want me to try at it?
- Abigail
Not long after, the bell rang. Class was dismissed, I checked my phone right after.
No new messages. I frowned. Why hasn't he text back? I texted again.
Are you busy?
- Abigail
I sighed and walked my way home. I feel so naked without my jeans on, but it was spirit week. And we were all required to wear something spirity. I decided on an old version of our school's cheer uniform. With tights beneath them, of course.
My sister was a freakin' cheerleader and she used to rule this school like there was no tomorrow. Everyone expected me to be like her, I never was...
"Abi!" I heard someone call. I turned around. It was Michelle, and might I add that she is one of those girls to which Kolt flirted with endlessly.
"Mich," I paused, "What's up?" but she was my friend.
She smiled. Damn. Why did she become so pretty? She was a 5' 9 tall woman who had legs that went on for days. She was a stereotype model, and yet, she isn't. "Walk with me home?"
I nodded. "Sure." Who was I to say no? She was just so pretty and perfect, and I was so, blech! U.G.L.Y.
"Have you heard from Kolt?" she asked.
I shook my head. Why was she asking me? Nobody was supposed to know that we were even texting!
She frowned, "Don't worry. Ashley told me. And I know what you're gonna say, but no! I'm not jealous! Kolt and I are just friends. He talks to me about you." She winked.
I stopped walking, "What?!"
She nodded. "Yeah. He does. I asked him what you were to him and he said that you were very tight. And that he couldn't live a day without texting you."
I rolled my eyes, "Well, that's– Bull." I said.
She laughed beside me. Michelle was perfect for Kolt, and she was his type anyway. She was tall like him. She was pretty, and he was handsome. He was a popular jock and she was Student Council President. She was smart, friendly, and beautiful. Who would've asked for anything more?
"He's sick," she said. My head suddenly turned to her. "He told me that was the reason why he hasn't come to school."
He lied to her. Figures. But I guess it was understandable, since it was a personal problem after all.
"I'll try and see what I can do. He just probably cramped himself from all that basketball." I smiled, "Wanna come with? I'll walk you home right after."
She shook her head, "No thank you. He'll be texting me tonight anyway."
I nodded and fell silent. He texted her day in and day out. Even I didn't have that privilege! I walked her home and turned to the corner where Kolt's house was.
A black haired guy with tossed up curls watched me as I walked up. "Is there a problem?" I asked.
His head bobbed. "You that Abi chick?" I nodded. "I'm Keannen. Kolt's best man."
"Best man?" I chuckled.
He nodded, "I thought you'd be taller," and paused, "He's inside, sucking his ass off. Sick like a bitch!"
I wondered, "He's sick?" He told Michelle the truth after all. It was I who he lied to.
"See him for yourself." He pointed inside the house.
My head shook involuntarily. I couldn't see him. He lied to me. "Actually I just passed by, my house is over the other corner. It was nice meeting you though, Keannen."

Sorry for the late reply. I fell asleep. I'd like that. Thanks Abi! You're the best!
- Kolt
I threw my phone on the floor. My phone cracked. The door came flying open.
"Geez, Abigail! Will you relax?! Your phone is worth 10 gees, why the hell break it?" teased Raffy.
I growled, "Get out of here, Raffy! Leave me alone!" I buried my face into my pillow and cried. I felt his hand on my back.
"What's the matter? What happened at school?" he worriedly asked.
"Nothing!" I shouted onto the pillow. "Please go. I don't want anyone seeing me like this."
He pulled me up, facing him. I covered my face with my hands. He gave me a hug. "What happened?" he asked subtly.
I sniffed. "I'm just tired. Please, Raffy. I don't want to talk about it."
He nodded and kissed my forehead. "I'll be in my room if you need anything." I nodded.
After a few hours, my mom came barging in. She saw me curled up and asked, "What happened?"
"Nothing."
"Are you crying?" she sat on my bed.
I rolled my eyes. "No, mom. I'm tired, I need to rest."

36 New Messages. 10 Voice Mails. 49 Missed Calls.
I wasn't sure from whom they were from since I broke my phone. I couldn't even tap into the screen. It was broken like shit.
"I bet they're all from Kolt."
I glared, "Shut up, Andi!" It was my sister. Not the cheerleader one, but the smarter one. She was simple, pretty and very kind hearted. All the reason to love her.
"I swear! That guy might be a douche, but I've seen him trying to make it up to you. And it sure as hell is sweet!" she giggled.
I rolled my eyes and chuckled, "Andi, I told you about Kolt because I trust you. You're the closest thing I've got."
She touched her heart, "Aw. I'm touched." I stuck out my tongue at her. “Hurry up! You're gonna make me late for school."
I shook my head, "I'm not going. I'm having a rest day. I'll be good and up my feet tomorrow morning." I paused, "But if I'm still tired then, I might be forced to get a week off school."
"Don't care. Mom's going to know anyway. Bye!" she waved.
I stood up from my bed, "Leaving already? It's quarter to 8 in our clock. And need I remind? Our clock is 30 minutes advanced."
She rolled her eyes in annoyance, "I want to get there early."
"You mean, you made an agreement with Jaymark to meet up early for a sweet breakfast date at school? Aw. Gross." I laughed.
She stared at me, "Jerk!" She threw an elephant doll at my direction, which Kolt gave me last year for Christmas. I looked at it. "Sorry."
I smiled. "Whatever. He lied. Just throw this in the dumpster. I don't care. We were a secret, remember?" I sarcastically mocked. "Never really official." I whispered.
"Abi, he cares about you. I know it! He probably has a rational and logical reason for what he did. You need to hear him out," she said.
I groaned. "You're right, but not now. I'm too hurt to be thinking about that." I buried my face onto my pillow.
She smiled at me and took the doll from me, "I'll throw this out for you. I'm leaving. Bye!"
I sighed. Why did things need to be so complicated? I grabbed my phone and stared at it.
Incoming call...Kolt.
I tried tapping the screen, but it was useless. It was broken. I bit my lower lip for awhile and decided. I snatched my purse and aimed for the front door.
I took my bike and paddled myself to the nearest mall. There was a repair shop there.
The bell that clung at the top of the door rang as I entered. I looked around. "Good morning, Ma'am. How may I help you?" uttered the sweet saleslady.
I took out my iPhone from my back pocket and handed it to her. "My baby brother dropped it when he was playing Temple Run." I lied, "Can you fix it?"
She smiled, "There's an incoming call, Ma'am." She showed me the screen.
Incoming call...Kolt.
I sighed, "Yeah. It's a– my parent's business partner. He's very persuasive. He's forcing me into signing something for my Mom. So I really need my phone fixed."
She looked at it for a few minutes and said, "I can fix it, but I'm not sure how much damage there is. I might need to look at it for a while long, and fixing it would also take a while."
I took out 200 dollars from my pocket, "Can you rush it?"
She shook her head, "Ma'am, this is a decent repair business. We don't take bribes. Here's your number." She handed me a small piece of paper, "Have a seat and I'll call you when it's fixed."
I looked at the paper. 1015. "What number is it now?" She pointed to the screen above her head. The screen blinked. Currently serving 0976. I puffed. This was going to be a long day.
